14R60 & 14R

The 14R60 and 14R are the production models based on the TRD Griffon Concept - a high performance track 86 created by Toyota Racing Development. The Griffon 86 broke the 1 minute barrier at the Tsukuba circuit with only bolt-on parts and no forced induction, beating the lap times set by the R35 GTR and Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera.

The two 14R models were created as a celebration and display that power is not everything. With stiffer chassis and suspension, weight reduction, bigger brakes, and aero parts derived from the Griffon Concept, the 14R models give owners a taste of the handling and rigidity inspired by the circuit monster.

The track focused 14R60 has wider ducted front fenders, carbon fibre roof, LSD, oil cooler, and magnesium wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE-11A tyres.

Inside the 14R60, you’ll notice it is as close to a track car as you can get from the factory, with bucket seats, 4 point harness, rear seats replaced with by carbon panels, and the exclusion of unnecessary features like infotainment, cruise control and other comfort features. The 14R60 is limited to only 100 units and cost 6,300,000 yen ($41,000 usd).

On the other hand, the 14R is suited to those to want the spirit of the TRD Griffon without sacrificing everyday comfort. This street version comes with regular fenders, rear seats, sat nav, and features found in the top spec of the normal 86. The 14R is not a limited production model and were available for order at 3,800,000 yen ($25,000 usd).

The name 14R60 comes from the year the model was sold, 2014, the letter ‘R’ stands for Racing, and lastly, the 60th anniversary of Toyota Racing Development.
